Went for a walk see the flood alleviation in action. River water was being pumped from the River Calder into Centre Vale Park, for the first time since flood alleviation work was completed. The Park has had dikes and banks made so that a large portion of it will act as a holding tank until levels drop to the extent it can be pumped back into the river. This morning, the river was about to peak at Todmorden following heavy rainfall overnight. My road, which is very steep was a rushing torrent of water, bringing down mud and chippings from the farm tracks higher up. Schools were closed across the region, so people had to find other things to do.
