Cuillin Ridge Diaries 2004 – Long Ridge Scramble

Second visit in 2004

Sun 30 May 2004 Glen Brittle Cottage, Glen Brittle
After an overnight coach and taxi journey, we arrive at the cottage, for our first days walking – Sgurr na Banachdich, Sgurr Thormaid, Sgurr Ghreadaih, Sgurr a Mhadaidh, and Bidein Druim nan Ramh. This is part of the central section of the ridge and is particularly hard going with difficult navigation, and plenty of hard exposed scrambling both up and down. The day is hot and sunny, and for the first time, I feel totally happy with the exposure, and happily lead us up difficult sections of scrambling.

A hot and sunny day, and we are resting after yesterdays many climbs. We sit out in the beautiful garden that faces towards the Cuillin, with rhododendrons and gorse in bloom, and enjoy the cuckoos, birdsong and bees buzzing nearby. We make a parasol under which to enjoy ice cream and whisky with inevitable consequences. (I fall off my chair and the parasol falls on me) On the beach we make a barbecue from driftwood and consume sandy sausages.
