Cuillin ridge Diary 2005; Sron na Ciche in the Wet

Sunday 29 May 2005
Caravan at Glen Brittle Campsite
Climbs and scrambles on Sron na Ciche East Side; Stoney rake, Pinnacle Rake, Central Buttress, Diff 210 metres
It is still rainy, but we go out anyway. We leave big bags underneath Sron na Ciche, before walking round into Coir’a Ghrunnda, to scramble up Stoney Rake, and down Pinnacle Rake. After this we climbed Central Buttress a 210 metre Diff. before collecting our bags again. The day has been wet and damp all day, but hard rain keeps off until we are nearly back at the campsite. The caravan seems very welcoming after this.

Caravan at Glen Brittle Campsite
The day starts sunny and clear, so we set off to go to Sron na Ciche. Once we are well on the way, cloud mist and rain sweep over the mountains once again. We shelter beneath a boulder, and soon get cold. Decide that we are being nesh and that action is best so continue up to the climbing where a hailstorm and freezing mist swirl all around. Eventually we are forced to come down and retreat to the caravan. How many Skye days are there like this, you go out you try you come back. It’s all part of being on Skye trying to climb.
