Chaine du gigondas

Heavy rain in the night and a damp start.  we decide on a fast cycle ride.  First we cycle to Sablet, another mellow wine village, for a quick coffee in a very local cafe with only men in it, fingering their brandy glasses, then on to explore the D roads through the vast graph paper Domaines leading back to Vacqueyras.  The hill back up the 3 kilometres to the house seems as steep as ever and we never get used to it.

A cold wind is blowing but as we lunch, a blue sky appears behind a distant and fast approaching front, which encourages us to set off walking to the climbing area of Chaine du Gigondas, Sector 3, which is the highest of the Dentelles.

We see holes in the lacy rock, and pillars.  The climbing is quite difficultto find in spite of footpath markings. The rock is beautiful. Afterwards we walk back a differnet way along the top track and go wood collectiong and drink beer.
