Mantova, Italy. Rest Day. Total 2350km.
Decide on a strategy to escape the heat while cycling. We will get up a 4am tomorrow and cycle till lunchtime. Mantova is like a small Venice; the approach across the lake bridge gives the best view.
Red graceful domes and spired buildings lying above the grey water, always misty as in an old Florentine painting. It’s good to cycle slowly alone down big paved streets, arches porticos to either side, concealing shady shuttered shops of expensive luxury wares.
