We have heard of crowds on this route especially on a good clear day, so we ensured we set out for the mountain before anyone else. As soon as it is coming light, we are out of the door and walking across the stony ground towards the great rock walls that we will soon be climbing. Any fears of thunder or poor visibility are dismissed by the sight of a pure blue sky with no clouds and a bright sun rising up from the horizon. We are alone as we make our way across the pale moraine country.
