6,500 Km Cycle; Day 15, St Yrieix

Day 15 Friday 15 June 1984
St Yrieix-la-Perche, Haute Vienne, Limousin.  Rest Day 0 km Total 781km

A second rest day. I feel more alert, positive today, maybe we needed the rest more than we thought. A second breakfast at the friendly Bar des Arts, outside, where we could see people with empty containers were going beneath a little bridge under the road. Must be mineral water. So we took some in our water bottles Its good, very light and tasting of nothing.

In the ancient centre of the town, the twelfth century church has a cooling, cold cobble stone floor and candles high up against the tall stained glass. It’s a cheap lunch and supper today, soft cheese and bread eaten at the tent in the shade. I bring the karrimat down to the shady fishermens’ side of the lake and lie, and draw a bit.

Nearby are white campions, a pink ragged cranesbill, orange daisies, white orchids, ferns and rustling leaves; shadows and sun patches. Two girls are sunbathing in a far patch of light amongst the shade, and doing excersises.
