Getting back to the bus
Day 14
Collioure to Perpignan
All that remained to do today was to ride back to where the European Cycle Bus would collect us and take us on the long journey home. The prospect of 24 hours of immobility seemed a little less daunting after 14 days of cycling with no rest day. We found cycle paths marked on the maps, and for the most of the journey we were able to travel on traffic free lanes or cycle paths alongside busier roads. The best part was along the river Tet, wide and sunny with big reeds, and views. Just as we arrived at our destination, maybe about half a mile before we found the coach stop, my pedal seized up so that it would not turn any more. The dropping off and picking up points for the European Bike Express are a marvel in themselves. How do they manage to find so many nondescript places with no toilet or amenities, and so little charm. Here we were, somewhere by a motorway on the outskirts of Perpignan. There was a narrow strip of pine trees bordering the motorway, where we got changed, washed and did anything else we needed to do. Then all you have to do is sit down, eat Jason’s Lasagne, drink wine and hey presto you’re back in Wakfefield.
